This
blog is my Nomad Homestead. A place to explore old fashioned skills of
homesteading, craft, and self-sufficiency...just without the acreage!
Without any acreage at all in fact. Can I build a portable veggie
garden? Let's find out!
If you could go back in time and ask the ten year old me- the shy, homebody, prototype of who I am today- if I ever thought I'd be working seasonal jobs, pulling up roots and moving nearly every six month, you'd be met with a pale stare of abject terror. I was not born a ramblin' woman, but my love of trail-work has turned me into one. Working in the wilderness for the past few seasons have been some of the happiest times of my life. I'm healthy, I'm strong, I've seen breathtaking views, I've woken up to the bugles of elk, I have friends in every state, and an impressive axe collection. But, as with all things, the life of a nomad has it's downsides.
Coming back to my homeland I see the friends I grew up with buying houses, finding husbands, and climbing the ladder of steady jobs. I can survive without the last two, but of the first I am supremely jealous. They have gardens, and fresh eggs from backyard chickens. Shelves of home canned fruit, and homemade wine fermenting in their basements. I imagine wistfully the homestead I could have if I lived a settled life. So why not have it anyway! Try to have a homestead on wheels! It may not work, but there is always value in a grand endeavor....I'm still bummed I can't have chickens though.
